Nomination of Award Candidates

Award Candidate Application

The Japan Society for Food Engineering accepts recommendations from Society members for the Society Award, Technology Award, Research Award, Encouragement Award, Industry-University Collaboration Award, and the Essay Award as follows. We invite you to apply either with self-nomination or nomination by others.

  1. Applicants for the Society Award, Technology Award, Research Award, Encouragement Award, and Industry-University Collaboration Award should use Nomination Form 1. Applicants for the Essay Award should use Form 2. All applications must be received by post by the Administrative Office no later than Monday, December 14, 2009.
  2. As a rule, you should recommend one nominee each for the Society Award, Research Award, and Encouragement Award, and up to three nominees with the same topic of study for the Technology Award as well as the Industry-University Collaboration Award (You must specify what role each nominee plays in the study).
  3. Candidates nominated through steps 1 and 2 above must submit Form 3 and up to five supporting documents (such as dissertations, patents, etc. with their eight photocopies) to the Society Office no later than Tuesday, January 12, 2010.
  4. In addition to the Award Regulations of the Society, this year, the nature of the award and the suitability of the candidate shall be determined as follows.
    4.1 The Society Award shall be conferred upon someone whose achievements have made a special contribution to the academic development of Food Engineering.
    4.2 The Technology Award shall be conferred upon someone whose achievements have made a special contribution to the industrial development of Food Engineering.
    4.3 The Research award shall be conferred upon someone whose achievements have made a special contribution to a particular field related to Food Engineering.
    4.4 The Encouragement Award shall be conferred upon someone who is around 45 years or younger and has undertaken outstanding research contributing to the advancement of Food Engineering and from whom further contributions are expected in the future.
    4.5 The Industry-University Collaboration Award shall be conferred upon someone whose special collaborative research, by collaborating between a company and a university or a public research institute, has contributed to the development of Food Engineering.
    4.6 The essay award is chosen from publicly commended essays submitted to the Japan Journal of Food Engineering (including reviews and commentaries) from Volume 7, Issue 1, to the issue in which this article appears.
  5. As a rule, candidates chosen should be individual members of the Society. However, the Technology Award, Encouragement Award, and Industry-University Collaboration Award can include Maintenance Members and people belonging to corporate bodies that have Group Membership as well as regular members.
  6. The Essay Award may be awarded at the recommendation of the editorial committee, as well as by regular nomination.
  7. It is hoped that the research of successful candidates (in whole or in part) will be published in the Japan Journal of Food Engineering (or published as an insert), or presented at the Japan Society for Food Engineering Annual Convention.
